Jelmer Cnossen
Senior Blade Design Specialist & Aerodynamics Expert | Wind Turbine Composites
About
Jelmer Cnossen is a senior technical leader and aerodynamics expert with over 15 years of specialized experience in the structural and aerodynamic design of onshore wind turbine blades. Currently serving as the Head of DFM Blades, he directs technology strategy, business development, and a specialized engineering team focused on Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodologies. His technical purview encompasses the full lifecycle of wind turbine blade development, ranging from early conceptual design and aero-elastic co-simulations to wind tunnel testing and root cause analysis of blade structural failures.
Prior to his current role, Cnossen held prominent engineering and management positions at major OEMs and global blade manufacturers, including LM Wind Power, GE, Blade Dynamics, and Suzlon Energy. Notably, he was responsible for the conceptual blade design of GE’s Cypress platform (158m rotor) and developed novel methodologies to incorporate geometric manufacturing deviations into the prediction of blade performance and load thresholds. Backed by a PhD in Theoretical Aerodynamics from Delft University of Technology, his work directly bridges advanced composite fracture mechanics with scalable, cost-effective manufacturing processes to optimize turbine CapEx and OpEx.
